The Central Library, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre (NCERC), organized a Talk Session on "Reading is Development" on 8 July 2026 from 3.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Aryabhatta Seminar Hall as part of the National Reading Day Celebrations.
The programme commenced with a prayer by Ms. Anamika S. (S3 CSE-A), followed by the welcome address delivered by Ms. Dhana R. (S3 CSE-A). The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Anoop K. J., Principal, NCERC, who emphasized the importance of cultivating reading habits among students for their intellectual and personal growth.
The Chief Guest, Saraswathy Mam, Renowned Writer, delivered an inspiring and thought-provoking talk on the theme "Reading is Development." She highlighted the transformative power of reading and explained how regular reading enhances knowledge, creativity, communication skills, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. She encouraged students to develop reading as a daily habit and to utilize books as valuable resources for academic excellence and personality development.
Felicitations were offered by Dr. Sudheer S. Marar, Dean Academics, HoD–MCA Department and NDLI Club Patron; Dr. Mredhula L, IQAC Director and HoD–ECE Department; and Mr. Srinivasan M., Admin Manager ,NCERC. The dignitaries appreciated the initiative taken by the Central Library and encouraged students to actively participate in reading-related activities.
The Chief Guest was honoured by the Principal in recognition of her valuable contribution to the event. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the online competitions conducted as part of the National Reading Day celebrations.
More than 200 students actively participated in the programme. Teaching and non-teaching staff members also attended the session, making the event highly interactive and successful. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Anagha R. K. (S3 ECE), followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
